A pothole is the last symptom, not the first
By the time you see a pothole, water has already gotten under the asphalt, softened or washed out the base, and left the surface unsupported. Cold patch shoveled into the hole can make it drivable for a while, but the next storm or freeze usually breaks it back out. A repair that lasts removes the failed section and rebuilds it.
What we repair
Potholes
We saw-cut a square around the damage, past where the pavement is still solid, remove the broken asphalt and wet base, re-compact or replace the base, tack the edges, and fill with hot-mix compacted flush.
Alligator cracking
Interconnected spiderweb cracks mean that section's base has failed. Crack sealant and sealcoat won't hold — the area gets cut out and rebuilt.
Broken and washed-out edges
On sandy lots, runoff often undercuts the edge of a driveway. We cut back to solid pavement, rebuild the edge with a compacted taper, and add shoulder material so it stays supported.
Sunken areas
Low spots that hold water usually trace back to soft or poorly compacted sand underneath. We remove the pavement, correct the base and grade, and repave.
Utility trenches
After a water, sewer or electrical line repair, we restore the trench with compacted base and hot-mix so it doesn't settle into a dip.

Repair or replace?
If repairs would cover more than about a quarter to a third of the surface, or the whole driveway is alligator-cracked, it's usually better value to rebuild and overlay or replace. We'll show you the numbers both ways.
Common questions
Do you do small repairs?
Yes. Plenty of our calls are a few potholes or one damaged section. Text photos to (505) 207-4231 for a quick idea of cost.
Why do patches fail?
Most failed patches went over wet or soft base, weren't cut back to solid pavement, or weren't compacted. We address all three.
Can you patch in winter?
Temporary cold patch can be used for safety. Permanent hot-mix repairs are best done in warmer weather.
