Valley ground is different from mesa ground
Bernalillo sits in the Rio Grande valley north of Rio Rancho, along Camino del Pueblo and the US-550 corridor. Down in the valley, the soil changes: less clean sand, more silt and clay, and in some places groundwater closer to the surface. Those soils hold moisture, soften when wet, and can move as they dry. A driveway that would be fine on the mesa can rut or crack here if it's built the same way.
How we build in Bernalillo
- Remove soft soil. Silty, wet or organic material in the driveway footprint comes out.
- More base where needed. A thicker compacted base bridges softer valley soil.
- Positive slope. Flat valley lots need a deliberate slope so water leaves the surface.
- Outlets. Swales or culverts carry water to a safe place, away from the pavement and the house.

Common questions
Do you serve all of Bernalillo?
Yes, plus the surrounding Sandoval County area, Algodones and Placitas.
My driveway gets soft after rain. Can you fix that?
Usually, by removing the soft soil, adding compacted base and regrading so water drains away. Patching alone won't fix a soft base.
Do I need a permit?
Work on your property usually doesn't. A new connection to a town street, county road or state highway may need one. We'll check at the quote.
