The most-requested project in Rio Rancho subdivisions
Across Rio Rancho — from established neighborhoods off Southern and Northern Boulevard to the newer areas in 87144 — the story is the same: concrete driveway out front, and a gravel or dirt strip along the side of the house where the RV lives. On mesa sand, that strip ruts under the tires, the jacks sink, and every windy day blows it around.
How we build an RV pad
- Measure the RV and the route. Length, width, axle positions, gate width, and the turn from the street.
- Dig out backfill. The ground beside newer houses is often loose construction fill. It comes out and is replaced with compacted base.
- Heavier base. More compacted aggregate than a car driveway, especially under the wheels.
- Thicker asphalt. A heavier section to carry the weight without rutting.
- Grade away from the house. Water goes to the street or a safe outlet — never toward the foundation.
- Smooth tie-in. A flush joint at your concrete driveway or curb.
Tips for living with it
- Use jack pads or boards under stabilizers, especially in summer.
- Avoid turning the wheels while parked during the first hot weeks.
- Sealcoat the pad along with the driveway every few years.

Common questions
How much does an RV pad cost?
It depends on size, access and how much backfill has to come out. See our cost guide, or text photos and rough dimensions to (505) 207-4231.
Is asphalt strong enough for a motorhome?
Yes, when it's built with a heavier base and thicker asphalt than a car driveway.
Do I need HOA approval?
Often. We provide a written scope and simple drawing for the submission.
